Favorite Publications
Below are some of the spots I frequent when I want to read pieces of flash fiction and short stories. They are also places that I'm either aspiring to be part of or have already had a piece featured. They all have wonderful writers contributing them. Enjoy!
Flash Fiction Magazine - Another great daily site. They send emails weekly which includes a full week of story excerpts. I'm now published here, along with their sister site (101words.org). They offer some courses which I've taken that ultimately lead to the Flash Fiction Masters facebook group. This is one of my main writing groups, and the people there have been fantastic. I highly recommend the stories from amazing authors as well as the courses and resources they provide.
101words - A great site for daily micro-fiction. My first online story was one of these and I've since had 3 more published there. It's amazing what can be done with only 101 words sometimes and they can be incredibly challenging to write at times. A sister to the Flash Fiction Magazine site, it's run by some of the same great folks. They have a daily email sign up that allows you to read excerpts of the stories.
Altered Reality Magazine - I was fortunate enough to have one of my pieces published here. Kelly, the editor, was very kind and patient to work with. The piece went through a number of re-writes and edits, and turned out much stronger than I expected. They feature speculative fiction in all genres as well as having very nice author profile spaces to feature your other works.
Every Day Fiction - Great site for a range of genre fiction. Daily emails and a fairly well traveled site. Many of the pieces get significant comments from their readership. The story I have published there had a fairly significant amount of commentary when it was first up. The editors there were very nice to work with and I continue to follow them and pursue more publications at their site.
Carpe Arte - This journal features short stories, essays, poetry and more all revolving around being inspired by a piece of visual art. Eva Wong Nava who runs the site is one of the members of the Flash Fiction Masters writing group I'm a part of, and she's had some amazing accomplishments herself.
Daily Science Fiction - This is one I read about every day. Their daily email includes the full text of the story, so you can read it from there without going over to the page. Not published in it yet, but still trying.
The Arcanist - This one produces weekly stories in the SciFi/Fantasy genre. I've read quite a few good ones there. I haven't yet hit the mark to get a piece published, but they are reasonably responsive to submissions (approx. 1 month turnaround).
